Reskovica monastery
Reskovica monastery
After some difficult times from 1467 to 1528 when it was abandoned, the church was rebuilt, probably on the old foundations. The monastery was an important spiritual center at the time when our overall culture sprang from spirituality.
Holy books were transcribed here from the end of 16th century to the end of 17th century. Thanks to its geographical position, the monastery was difficult to access. At a time when even the strongest defensive walls could not stop the tyrants, this fact was a great advantage. Many books have been transcribed in Reškovica, but a small number have been preserved to this day. The monastery was raided, burned and demolished by the Turks in 1688.
The renovation of the monastery began in 1991. However, this is not the usual restoration on the foundations of the demolished monastery. The foundations of the medieval monastery Reškovica are left aside, and a new church on three levels is being built twenty meters north of them. The two levels are underground (the lowest is dedicated to the Council of Saint Apostles, the middle to St. Catherine of Sinai, and the upper to the Holy Trinity.)
