Every year the last week of May, the "Dragutin Tomašević" Memorial Race is organized from Bistrica to Petrovac. The ceremonial opening of the "Dragutin Tomašević" Memorial Race is taking place on the town square in Petrovac with the intonation of the Serbian anthem and the raising of the Olympic and state flags on masts in the town center.

Numerous athletes from athletic clubs throughout Serbia are taking part in the main race, which is being held under the name of our celebrated marathon runner Dragutin Tomašević. The race is run on a track ten kilometers long from Bistrica to Petrovac. The organizers provide numerous prizes.
Thanks to the efforts of people from the organizing committee and the Sports Federation, as well as the leaders of the local self-government, this event has become a significant athletic competition of international rank.

The best Serbian long distance runners took part in the race: Sasa Stolić, Goran Stojiljković, Darko Živanović, Elzan Bibić, Mirko Petrović, Marko Ranković and foreign competitors Stanley Kipruto from Kenya, Samuel Najbei Kiplimo and competitors from Ghana.

Who is Dragutin Tomašević?
Dragutin Tomašević, was born in the village Bistrica near Petrovac na Mlavi. He participated on Olympic games in Stockholm 1912. He represented Serbian in marathon race. In the last 13 years, in his honor there is memorial race Bistrica - Petrovac na Mlavi
