Rural tourism

Favorable climatic conditions as well as natural amenities (relief, fertile land, forests, mineral resources, wealth of watercourses) conditioned the early settlement of this area in the middle course of the river Mlava. In order to take a break from the rather unnatural life in the cities, people need to spend at least ten days a year in pure nature and they are doing it in increasing numbers. The municipality of Petrovac is currently developing this type of tourism, with the development of initial foundations and projects. The offer of staying in this area, villages and mountains, in fact in the complexes of ecologically healthy old houses, barns and farms in Podhomolje mountains. That is why the municipality sees this type of tourism in the upcoming time as one of the greatest opportunities for it’s development. We should mention the households: Simonović and Marinkić from Ždrelo, Milenković and Ilić from Malo Laole as the bearers of this type of tourism. The Homolje mountains that make up the hinterland of the Mlava region are rich in caves and natural shelters, representing the oldest habitats of paleolithic man. So far, no findings have been recorded that would confirm the presence of people in the old stone age (paleolithic).

A special attraction is the ethno village Bistrica. It is located next to the regional road that connects the center of the Braničevo district with Žagubica and Bor. It lies on the river of the same name, and it is about ten kilometers away from the city. A part of the village of Bistrica of about 156 cadastral parcels was determined in 1986. as a cultural asset of great importance. It is a cultural-historical whole, which includes three rolling mills, ten mills, a church with a churchyard, a farm, five houses, one of which has auxiliary buildings, then the building of the local community, old schools and taverns. Today, it represents the most organized part of the village, and the church, known throughout history as Đerinac, the church port and the surroundings of the church is a gathering place. There is a memorial room in the village for the first serbian olympian Dragutin Tomašević, who was buried in his home village.
