Mountain climbing

The Petrovac na Mlavi municipality has exceptional conditions for hiking and mountaineering. Part of the Homolje mountains is located on our territory. The mountains are accessible and all access roads are in good condition. The distance from Belgrade is about 130 km.
Veliki and Mali Vukan, Ježevac, Krilaš, Štubej are interesting… The peaks are from 670 m to 940 m above sea level high, so they count as not too difficult peaks for climbing. Most trails are well maintained and marked. It is especially interesting that a large number of trails begin at the monasteries or at least lead by them.
There are numerous accommodation facilities near the hiking trails. Only a few kilometers away is “Ždrelo Spa” , accommodation "Jenić", "Simonović", Magnolia. In Ždrelo village there is a scout home where accommodation can be booked.
In Gornjak gorge and around "Ždrelo Spa" there are many restaurants where mountaineers can take a break. Visitors can book in advance and thus get a discount for a larger number of people.

The river Mlava flows through the Homolje mountains and creates Gornjak gorge where mountaineering is especially developed. Climbing routes exist on the left and right banks of the Mlava river and are accessible. The directions are arranged and marked, there are wedges. Mountaineer clubs organize courses for beginners in the gorge.
There is a "Mountaineering Association Gornjak" in Petrovac. When you visit their website you can see and download the trails (tracks).
